Dr. Sasiela is the Regulatory Specialist for the Office of Translational Alliances and Coordination (OTAC, http://bit.ly/callNHLBIotac) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).  In this role she helps NHLBI-funded investigators (academic and small businesses) understand and navigate the US biomedical regulatory pathway through educational events and one-on-one consultation.  Prior to joining the NHLBI, Chris’ regulatory experience includes working in the Office of Biotechnology Products at the FDA, and as Director of Regulatory Affairs and Services at a contracting company.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Whittier College; a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore; and holds a Regulatory Affairs Certification (US) through the Regulatory Affairs Professional Society.

Civil engineer in biotechnology, bilingual and graduated from postgraduate programs in the areas of chemistry and biotechnology. Positive, proactive and efficient, with great interest in learning about new areas. With a productive career, focused primarily on biotechnology and the chemical industry; management and innovation, related with the postgraduate studies and with independent projects (production of hyaluronic acid from bacteria; optimization microorganisms cultures; development of a ELISA Kit for salmon; collagen extraction from cuttlefish; Lobesia botrana trap and repellent, CORFO Projects, HibridaLab, Hospital SCM, etc.). A particular training in innovation and entrepreneurship in the last years has allowed to develop the ability to work guiding different interdisciplinary groups, mainly associated with emerging projects and structuring business models. With special interest in the formulation and development of innovation projects within and outside companies, particularly related with the biotechnology industry, health and process engineering.

Biochemst from the Universidad de Chile, and dr rer Nat at TU Braunschweig, Germany. Currently Deputy Director of the Biotechnology Center and professor at the Forest Science Faculty at the Universidad de Concepcion Chile. Main area of R&D&i genomics and biosafety of GMOs. PI of several R&D proposals with companies, in the area of forest genomics. 

Have been co-founder of two spin-offs Genomica Forestal and DiagnoChrome. The latter focused on the development of detection kits for plant pathogens.
